Het gouden trio... - Paulies Ginger

The golden trio: ginger, turmeric, and lemon throughout the ages

At Paulies Ginger, we believe in the pure power of nature. Our three star ingredients – ginger, turmeric, and lemon – are not just any ingredients. For centuries, they have played a leading role in ancient healing practices such as Ayurveda from India and Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM). So, a little bit of history in your glass!

🌿 Ayurveda (India)

  • Ginger (Zingiber officinale): In Ayurveda, ginger has been called the “universal medicine” (Vishwa Bheshaja) for thousands of years. It is known for its warming effect, strengthening agni (the digestive fire), and helping with nausea and slow digestion.

  • Turmeric (Curcuma longa): better known as the “golden spice”. It is used for skin problems, wound healing, and blood purification. Turmeric is also considered a sattvic herb – it purifies and calms the mind, and is therefore also used in meditation and yoga. In addition to its health benefits, turmeric plays a role in rituals, for example during weddings and ceremonies.

  • Lemon: originally less prevalent in Ayurveda, but citrus fruits are used to remove ama (toxins) and refresh digestion. Lemon is particularly soothing for Kapha and stimulating for digestion.

🌿 Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM)

  • Ginger (Sheng Jiang): a warming herb that supports yang energy. It dispels cold from the body, opens the lungs, and helps prevent colds. Dried ginger (Gan Jiang) is considered even more powerfully warming and is often used for extreme cold in the body.

  • Turmeric (Jiang Huang): known for opening the meridians – especially around the chest and abdomen – and helping to reduce stagnation and pain. It improves the flow of qi (life energy) and blood, and is often used for joint pain and menstrual complaints.

  • Lemon: helps to relieve liver-qi stagnation – which in modern terms means releasing tension and stress. It cools excessive heat in the body, supports the liver, and quenches thirst. In ancient Chinese texts, lemon water was even recommended as a thirst quencher for travelers and traders on the Silk Road.

✨ Ancient wisdom in a modern shot

As you can see, a shot of ginger, turmeric, and lemon is not just a fresh boost for your day, but also an ancient tradition. What was true then, is still true now: nature has the power to support your body and mind.

👉 Paulies' tip: try a morning shot of ginger, turmeric, and lemon with a pinch of black pepper – this helps the turmeric to be absorbed even better by the body.

And make a delicious warming drink, add warm water to your Paulies and enjoy a delicious ginger lemon (optionally turmeric) tea.
