🌿 From pulp to pure soap: how Paulies Ginger gives new life to residual flows
We have great news: our very latest creation — the Paulies Ginger Soap — is a finalist for the Haarlem Innovation Award 2025! 🎉
The jury was unanimous: Paulies Ginger deserves a spot in the final.
Out of fifty submissions, we are one of eight companies with a chance to win this special prize for sustainable and circular entrepreneurship.
How it started
When we press our organic ginger and turmeric drinks at Paulies, a potent residual product remains after pressing: ginger and turmeric pulp. Intense in scent, packed with active ingredients – far too valuable to simply discard.
As a sustainable company, we are constantly looking for ways to optimally utilize our ingredients. What could we do with this rich pulp? We tried everything: muesli, muesli bars... but honestly, the 'wow factor' was missing.
Until Paulie bought a handmade soap for his wife Yvonne at a Christmas market. The delightful scent and the sustainable idea of a bar of soap instead of plastic bottles sparked an inspiration.
What if we made soap from our own ginger and turmeric pulp?
From idea to innovation
That idea stayed with us. We tested dozens of variants in the shower, refined the recipes, and ultimately collaborated with Beesha to develop two unique, natural soaps:
🧼 Ginger Orange – fresh, fruity, invigorating and warming
🧼 Turmeric Warm & Spicy – full-bodied, earthy, and wonderfully soft for the skin
Our soaps are traditionally made from vegetable oils and our own organic pulp.
The result?
A soft, nourishing soap with a wonderful scent — straight from nature.
What was once 'waste' is now a pure product in itself.
Moreover, our soap is 100% natural, free from chemical additives, and completely plastic-free. One bar of soap replaces no less than three plastic bottles of shower gel.
Sustainable, local, and innovative
With Paulies Ginger Soap, we are continuously closing the loop of our production. We combat food waste, reuse our own residual streams, and consciously choose local collaboration.
On November 28th, the jury will announce who will take home the Haarlem Innovation Award.
